Next Monday hundreds of swimmers will take their marks on starting blocks at the region’s only indoor heated 50 metre swimming pool as part of the Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Games.
NUsport CEO, Chris Hicks, said that The Forum was very proud to be part of the Games which will see seven days of great sporting moments for more than 2500 athletes with intellectual disabilities competing in nine sports in the Hunter.
“Over the four days of competitions we are expecting hundreds of spectators to watch these athletes from 32 nations across the Asia Pacific rim compete for pool and badminton honours,” Chris said.
The Forum’s Sports & Aquatic Centre at the University of Newcastle (Callaghan) will host four sessions that include more than 40 individual and team events in the aquatic competition on Monday 2, Tuesday 3, Thursday 5 and Friday 6 December. The Forum is also the host venue for the Badminton competition, which will include individual and doubles events on the same days.
The decision to be part of the games was logical for The Forum, given that its services are about sport but its core delivery points are about being actively part of the community.
