Last Tuesday a group of 14 dedicated local businesses pulled together to show their support for Stockton family retreat, Harry’s House, in the latest PS101 Challenge.

In the third annual challenge, brought to you by Property Solutions 101, Newcastle businesses battled it out in a Corporate Shoot Out event, which included activities such as netball, soccer, golf and quoits.

The event commenced at 9:30am on Tuesday 10 December, at Sports Parc in Cooks Hill.

Together the businesses raised $7,500 to go towards this year’s charity, Harry’s House, which offers support to families affected by a child with cancer.

Co-founder of Harry’s House, Samantha Meyn, said that she was elated by the support shown by  local businesses who took part in the Challenge.

“It was an amazing day and we are so appreciative of all the businesses who have taken part in the PS101 Challenge,” she said.

“The funds raised today will go towards providing housing for 52 families, including emergency housing, hospice or a getaway at the family retreat at Stockton.”

After a three-way tiebreaker, Quarry Mining took out the sought-after PS101 Annual Challenge winning title at the event.

Director of Property Solutions 101, Kylie Frearson, said she was thrilled to be able to offer Novocastrians a unique, fun, active fundraising avenue.

“It’s great seeing so many businesses throw themselves into charity events like the PS101 Challenge,” she said.

“When everyone gets involved, it makes the day a lot of fun – and the more people involved, the more money we can raise to put towards a good cause!” she said.

Teams in the challenge were made up of a maximum or four people (but confident sportspeople who wished to go it alone could represent their business by themselves!) and had the opportunity to participate five times in four sports.

The winner, Quarry Mining was presented with the prestigious trophy and twelve months of bragging rights.

“We are so thrilled that a local business, such as Property Solutions 101, were eager to raise money for our small organisation,” Samantha said.

“Any donation, big or small, helps us to go the extra length and provide for those who are undergoing the hardships that come with cancer. So, we encourage this sort of participation and thank all those who got involved.”
