A new family law firm has just opened its doors on Hunter Street, bringing a fresh offering to the local legal scene.
The business baby of experienced family and divorce lawyer Sarah Walker, Walker Family Law is on a mission to bring legal calm when family relationships change by making the process as easy, accessible and conflict-free as possible.
Those who’ve been or are going through divorce or separation know just how hard it can be emotionally, practically, and financially. That’s why getting the legal side of it out of the way coolly and swiftly is a sigh of relief – something Sarah understands both professionally and personally.
“As well as practising law for over 14 years, I also have a degree in psychology and have been through a separation myself. This means I have a true understanding of what my clients are going through and how stressful and overwhelming changing family relationships are,” Sarah says.
The firm’s approach is simple. It’s about getting through the system quickly, keeping costs down and empowering separating individuals with clear, practical legal advice. This includes telling their clients their rights, so that they can take control and make decisions for themselves.
It’s also about taking the time to understand the situation and emotions at play and being there in an empathetic and supportive capacity while helping to keep emotion out of legal discussions.
While some family lawyers approach cases with a ‘You versus me’ attitude, Walker Family Law believes that agreement over sides and Court is always the better way.
Family law shouldn’t be about egos; it’s about what matters – and what matters is happier, healthier outcomes for all involved – especially children – so that everyone involved can move forward and start their new lives afresh. The boutique firm, located on Level 2, 360 Hunter Street, will offer the full spectrum of family law services, including divorce, child support, parenting arrangements, same-sex relationships, mediation, and Court representation.
Their new website will also become a hub for all things relating to family law, including news and information articles, as well as links to helpful resources.
Before branching out on her own to set up Walker Family Law, Sarah worked both as a lawyer and solicitor in many of Newcastle’s well-known firms. She was also Secretary of the Newcastle Law Society for three years.
While separation is never in the game plan, sometimes it can’t be avoided. “With my unique skills and background, I hope to give people the supportive space they need to explore their options and get through it,” Sarah said.
