Businesses collaborate to thank volunteers

Newcastle businesses have banded together to ensure the volunteers of John Hunter Children’s Hospital (JHCH) are appropriately thanked for the crucial role they play, funding a ‘thank you’ party on Friday, 25 November 2016 at the Duke of Wellington Hotel, New Lambton.

The volunteers are a diverse group, and at any one time this can include professionals, retirees, university students and Mums, Dad or grandparents. They provide a wide range of services and all have enormous value on the patient experience and for staff.

Tabitha Tworek, of Insight Wealth Planning, said it was important to take the time to thank the people who help make life a little easier for the families who are using the JHCH.

“Amazingly the JHCH don’t often need to do a call out for volunteers, as they have so many people wanting to help out,” Tabitha said. “It is this selflessness that we really wanted to recognise, thanking volunteers for everything they do.”

“Obviously the volunteers would never want JHCH funding spent on them, so we are proud to lead the charge to fund the thank you event, as well as the gifts provided.”

JHCH is a specialised tertiary referral paediatric hospital in Newcastle, providing complex medical, surgical, major trauma and neonatal care services for Northern NSW.

Manager Volunteer Services, Naomi Pope, says that the JHCH has a dedicated group of over 100 volunteers, who provide an invaluable service for the patients, parents and staff.

“This special group of individuals, donate their time to help ensure some of the sickest babies, children and young people have the best stay in hospital possible,” Naomi said.

“Our volunteers roles are wide and varied, from librarians to the emergency department, palliative care and neonatal intensive care unit. They are a special group of people.”
