A successful year in award wins for Morgan Engineering

Hunter-based Morgan Engineering has reinforced itself as a national firm this year, with several key award wins, including the inaugural Australian Owned business of the Year.

The National award recognises the Singleton established business for demonstrating excellence and commitment to Australian operations.

The Australian Owned Business of the Year Award acknowledges the exceptional work and results gained by the trailblazers of Australian industries, with local company Morgan Engineering being one of them.

Morgan Engineering has been awarded numerous other times this year including, Hunter Manufacturing Awards in the category of Excellence in Building Workforce Capability for the Future and NSW Training Awards Small Employer of the Year, making it a local business success story for the Singleton region.

Director of Operations, Matthew Morgan said he is in constant awe of the excellent and skilled team he works with every day.

“It’s one thing to see the great work we’re doing in action every day in the workshop, but to see it highlighted with multiple award wins this year is next level,” Matthew said.

“Being the inaugural winners of the Australian owned Business of the Year Award is something we’re very proud of as being Australian owned is an integral part of our day-to-day operations, which is reflected through our products, services, and overall business operation.”

Another aspect Morgan Engineering is passionate about is training their employees from the ground up. Supporting training and development is core to the business – developing a culture of active learning which ultimately improves productivity, staff engagement, employee retention, and customer satisfaction.

General Manager, Jeremy Brett, said after identifying the need for an apprenticeship program in line boring, which has no TAFE qualification or training, the company took action.

“In partnership with Gimbal Training we have developed a program which has paved the way for growth in the engineering sector, and the Singleton region,” Jeremy said.

“The program provides apprentices with both trade qualifications, specific skills, and experience, that is critical to our business. We have seen so many of our employees grow through this apprenticeship and we were very proud to have it showcased at the NSW Training Awards this year.”

The win at Hunter Manufacturing Awards goes hand in hand with their NSW Training Awards as it highlighted their training program that was developed in response to skills gaps that were identified in the workforce.

Matthew Morgan said the management team completed a review of workshop productivity and performance, identifying skills gaps which limited our ability to keep all equipment running at capacity, and to meet client demand.

“To increase productivity, we needed more employees with the specific skills required to operate machinery. That’s why we opened our training program to everyone, however employees were initially chosen based on their existing skill level, willingness, and ability to upskill, and ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills,” he said.

Morgan Engineering is elated by their successes this year, and looks forward to continuing it next year with more award wins on the horizon.
