Sleap Walk returns for third year with refreshed coastal route

Sleapy’s Foundation has announced the return of its primary annual fundraising campaign, Sleap Walk, entering its third year with a refreshed coastal route and a new corporate participation stream. The flagship community event will take place on Saturday 7 November 2026, commencing at 4:00pm with a 2.5-kilometre coastal circuit between Bar Beach Bowling & Sporting Club and Blue Door Merewether.

Capitalising on workplace giving programs and corporate social responsibility participation across the region, the foundation has launched the 25km Your Way Challenge for November. The workplace initiative encourages corporate teams, businesses, and community groups to complete 25 kilometres individually or collectively throughout November, representing the 25 local government and health areas served by the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at John Hunter Hospital.

Proceeds from both event streams will fund the ongoing capital maintenance and facility upgrades of the PICU Courtyard at John Hunter Hospital. The specialised outdoor facility provides medical respite and therapeutic space for critically ill pediatric patients and families undergoing extended hospitalisations.

Founder of Sleapy’s Foundation, Peter Sleap stated that expanding the event into virtual and workplace challenges enables businesses across Newcastle, the Hunter, and New England to participate in structured regional healthcare fundraising.

“These families need our help and support, and we’re asking people to get involved in whatever way they can,” Peter said.

“Every kilometre walked and every dollar raised makes a difference and shows these families that there are people in their community standing behind them. If you can’t make it to Bar Beach on 7 November, you can still be part of it. Get your family together, grab your mates or get your workplace involved and complete the 25km throughout November. Just get involved, have a go and help us support these families.”
