Scone-based builder Mable Projects wins national HIA start-up award

Hunter owned and operated construction company Mable Projects has been recognised on the national stage, winning the HIA Australian Start-up Business award at the 2026 HIA Australian Housing Awards. The winners were announced on 18 April 2026 on the Gold Coast before an audience of industry leaders and building professionals.

Based in Scone, Mable Projects was recognised for its approach to delivering construction projects across rural and regional communities. Since its establishment, the company has focused on building robust systems and a client-focused culture to manage regional growth. In addition to the start-up category win, the firm received a Highly Commended in the HIA Australian Emerging Builder category.

HIA Managing Director, Jocelyn Martin said the awards allow the association to acknowledge members for their skill and commitment to quality construction and design.

“The winning projects redefine what is possible in terms of innovation; they are setting new benchmarks for the industry,” Jocelyn said.

“It is my pleasure to congratulate each winner for their commitment to excellence.”

The industry’s highest honour, the 2026 HIA Australian Home of the Year, was awarded to Queensland’s Mactech Constructions for a five-level residence on the Gold Coast. The project was noted for resolving extreme site conditions on a cliff edge into a vertical home featuring a wellness retreat and rooftop helipad.

The HIA Australian Housing Awards select winners from state-based finalists across 24 separate categories. New South Wales builders performed strongly in the 2026 program, with wins in the Custom Built Home, Spec Home, Townhouse Development and Professional Builder categories. Sarah Starbuck from New South Wales was also named the 2026 HIA Jim Brookes Australian Apprentice.

The awards serve as a platform to showcase the work of the nation’s top builders and designers. Detailed results from the 24 categories highlight a significant presence of regional practitioners excelling in business management and technical execution.
