Port of Newcastle is offering sponsorships worth up to $6,000 for local sustainability initiatives that lead to lasting social and environmental benefits.
Port of Newcastle CEO, Craig Carmody, said the organisation was proud to play a major role in the NSW economy and to contribute to local and regional sustainability initiatives such as through the Community Sponsorship Program.
“Sustainability is at the core of the Port’s business strategy and culture,” Craig said.
“As well as embedding sustainability principles across our operations, the Port’s focus is on diversifying trade and the regional economy, improving the efficiency of existing supply chains, supporting the global transition to renewable energy and fostering community partnerships that support these objectives.”
Angie Francisco, the Port’s Communications and Community Relations Manager, said the Community Sponsorship Program was open to eligible organisations, groups and charities that focused on adding value to the Newcastle area.
“Funding offered through the Community Sponsorship Program is in addition to the $1 million the Port provides annually through the Newcastle Port Community Contribution Fund,” Angie said.
“The Contribution Fund, administered by the New South Wales Government, supports the development of community infrastructure. Port of Newcastle’s Sponsorship Program adds further local value by helping to deliver projects that give rise to thriving, prosperous communities for generations to come.
Angie said that the Port will be looking out for applications that deliver in unique and beneficial ways in line with the Ports goals and vision for the future.
“Priority will be given to activities that deliver measurable environmental benefits, support student engagement in STEM-related career pathways, or empower women within the workforce particularly in STEM and leadership roles,” she said.
Angie said the Community Sponsorship Program was part of the Port’s commitment to enhancing its contribution to the social, economic and environmental outcomes for the Hunter Region and NSW.
People/businesses can lodge an application by Friday 6 March 2020.
