Oversubscribed podcast partners with Breast Cancer Trials for Season 5

Alana Nixon and Laura Jackel of Oversubscribed, have joined forces with Australia’s oldest and most respected breast cancer research organisation, Breast Cancer Trials (BCT), for Season Five of their podcast.

The duo hopes to use their podcast platform, which has been engaging thousands of women across Australia and New Zealand each week, to promote ground-breaking new breast cancer research.

To coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Oversubscribed will be releasing a special episode that discusses this ground-breaking new research.

Currently, Breast Cancer Trials is recruiting for a world-first clinical trial designed to help women with the BRCA 1 gene mutation, who have an approximate 70 per cent risk of developing breast cancer and 40 per cent risk of developing ovarian cancer over their lifetime.

Medical Oncologist and BCT Medical Advisor, Dr Nick Zdenkowski, said this research could help provide women with less invasive prevention options.

“Currently, for these women the most commonly used preventative option is the surgical removal oftheir breasts and/or ovaries,” he said.

“The new BRCA P clinical trial is testing whether a drug called Denosumab is effective in preventing breast cancer in women who carry this BRCA1 gene mutation.

“Breast Cancer Trials aims to recruit at least 300 women to the trial across 15 hospitals in Australia, as part of an international recruitment target of just under 3000.”

Laura said they were both excited to be able to use their platform to educate and encourage women to take their breast health seriously.

“We are thrilled to have a part in spreading the message about this new clinical trial and also about breast cancer and the importance of breast cancer research generally,” Laura said.

“Both of us have friends and close family members who have been affected by breast cancer and know how important it is to find research participants and raise awareness of the work that researchers do more broadly.”

Season five will launch on Thursday 24 September and will run until the end of November 2020.

Topics to be covered this season, aside from the breast cancer special, are all relevant to busy Gen X and Millennial women.

Alana and Laura will discuss imposter syndrome, the US election, the wellness industry, women’s health and Harry and Meghan!
