Outdoor dining options for Lake Macquarie

Lake Macquarie City Council is encouraging residents and business operators to provide feedback on its draft Footway Dining Policy and Procedure.

Council’s Property and Business Development Manager, Kate Cramp, said the draft policy and procedure aims to formalise existing practices to assist in providing safe and accessible pedestrian access on footpaths, while also balancing the interests and needs of business, residents, ratepayers and visitors.

“There is no doubt that having vibrant and commercially sustainable town centres is a top priority for the Lake Macquarie community and Council will be doing all in its power to support safe and appropriate activities that achieve this goal,” Kate said.

“Lake Macquarie has a great climate for outdoor dining ‚Äì the more people who get out and enjoy the outdoors, the better.”

“We want to make it clearer for traders to apply to take their dining services outdoors. This is part of a wider commitment to improve our town centres and add vibrancy, character and economic activity to these areas.”

The Policy and Procedure will provide clear guidelines to applicants, the community and Council staff in ensuring pedestrian and traffic safety and accessibility are not compromised.
