Newcastle Airport welcomes new Director

Newcastle Airport has welcomed experienced senior executive and prominent Novocastrian Samantha Martin-Williams as a non-executive Director to its Board.

Samantha joins the board with more than twenty-five years of diverse experience in highly regulated industries including logistics and supply chain, financial services, education and health.

Speaking earlier this month about the appointment outgoing Newcastle Airport Chair, Peter Gesling, said Samantha would bring invaluable skills and experience in strategic transformation and commercial change to the organisation.

“We believe Samantha will not only bring a unique set of skills and experiences to the Board, but also a passion for our region and the role that Newcastle Airport plays in it,” Peter said.

“The Board is currently going through a renewal process, which will allow us to maintain an agile and future-focused philosophy. Samantha’s appointment is an excellent illustration of that approach.”

An experienced leader and proud champion of regional Australia, Samantha has held, and continues to hold, various roles at iconic Newcastle organisations including Newcastle Permanent Building Society and the University of Newcastle.

Samantha is also a former Telstra Business Woman of the Year and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Having just returned from the Australian Women Leaders Study Tour of San Francisco and Silicon Valley, Sam is currently leading future of work, people enabled tech for good and new collar job conversations across regional Australia.

In taking up the position as a Director, Samantha said she is excited about the future of Newcastle Airport and the potential of the region.

Newcastle Airport Pty Ltd is jointly owned by City of Newcastle and Port Stephens Council and is governed by an independent, skills-based Board of Directors.

“It’s an exciting time to join the Board of Newcastle Airport,” she said.

“There is a lot of work to be done and I look forward to working with my Board colleagues and management to help the airport unlock our region’s potential.”

Samantha now replaces long serving Director, Ted Campbell, having taken the role on 18 October 2019.
