NAIDOC grants now open to support community celebrations across NSW

Aboriginal community organisations and groups across New South Wales are encouraged to apply for 2025 NAIDOC grants, now open to support events and activities that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture, and achievements.

The Minns Labor Government is providing $300,000 in funding for community-led celebrations aligned with this year’s NAIDOC theme: The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy. Grants of $500 to $5,000 are available for eligible events held between 1 July and 30 November 2025.

The NAIDOC Grants Program, managed by Aboriginal Affairs NSW, helps bring communities together through storytelling, cultural showcases, and events that strengthen connections to Country and community.

In 2024, more than 120 community-led events received funding, including public exhibitions, cultural workshops, sporting activities, and festivals, all contributing to the celebration and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Applications close on 21 April 2025.

State Member for Cessnock, Clayton Barr, encouraged local organisations to take part.

“I encourage all Aboriginal community organisations and groups who may have an idea for a NAIDOC event but need funding, to apply for these grants,” Clayton said.

“NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for us all – Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people – to connect with the community, take part in celebrations, and learn from the world’s oldest, continuous living cultures.”

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Treaty, David Harris, said the grants reflect the NSW Government’s commitment to supporting cultural recognition and reconciliation.

“These grants are one of the ways that the NSW Government supports local communities to lead celebrations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture, and achievements,” David said.

“By supporting events like these, we are continuing to close the gap in NSW by creating opportunities to learn from and celebrate the richness and vibrancy of Aboriginal cultures together.”
