With University of Newcastle students returning to their studies this week and TAFE already in full swing, it seems appropriate that this month we turn our focus to education, in particular apprentices and trainees.
Managing the apprenticeship and traineeship process can be an administrative challenge for small business. HunterNet established its own Group Training Company to address this, making it easier for businesses to access apprentices and trainees and giving our employees peace-of-mind that they will be permanently employed for the duration of their qualification, regardless of changes in workloads for the host employer.
The HunterNet Group Training Company manages the whole process, from recruitment and payroll to educational development and pastoral care.
Now in its 23rd year, the HunterNet Group Training Company has employed approximately 900 apprentices and trainees since 1996. It has grown and evolved from a traditional trade set, diversifying into areas such as electronics and business administration. The Group Training Company has also expanded beyond the Hunter region, employing in locations such as Canberra, South Australia and Western Australia.
HunterNet Group Training Company’s General Manager, Nick Couper shares our organisation’s sentiment that it is fantastic to see all the good news stories coming from employees through the program.
“Our apprentices and trainees are being recognised for their hard work and have received a number of awards from different organisations. We often see them continue employment with their host at the completion of their qualification,” Nick said.
Among the many award recipients is Zak Sumiran, hosted by Roadhound Electronics. Zak was the runner up for Samsung’s 2018 Recognition of Technical Achievement Award (pictured).
