The Mutual Bank has partnered with The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation (HBCF) to sponsor a virtual and physical wig and headwear library to support Hunter women going through breast cancer.
As some breast cancer treatments will cause hair loss, the library will offer a range of wigs, scarves, hats, and turbans to keep clients comfortable and confident. Headwear is often an important part of clients feeling confident and demonstrating a sense of choice and control throughout their treatment.
The Mutual Bank’s CEO, Geoff Seccombe believes that supporting the local community through this practical support service will allow local families to continue to live their lives while journeying through breast cancer.
“The HBCF’s Wig and Headwear Library will make such a difference to so many women and their families during what has to be an incredibly difficult time in their lives,” he said.
“Our organisation strives to put people above profit, and we could not be more pleased to be able to financially support the work of this incredible organisation which helps women when they are most vulnerable.”
Whether clients are looking for long or short, straight, wavy, blonde, grey, brunette or even rainbow, the library will offer a range to suit all styles and preferences. HBCF package up wigs along with specialty shampoo, conditioner, styling spray and a hair net along with instructions on how to fit and style the wigs from the comfort of their homes.
Margaret Parkes who has recently received the essential support services from HBCF knows how vital this service is to the local community.
“It’s hard to describe what the support means. There’s lots of women like me in the Hunter Region who really need this assistance,” Margaret said.
Thanks to the funding from The Mutual Bank, The Headwear Library will run virtually via the HBCF website. Clients can browse from a range of headwear on the website before selecting six items to try on in the comfort of your own home. They offer contactless delivery and let clients keep the items for a few days so they can select the perfect headwear.
HBCF General Manager, Ellie Wells said that now more than ever, HBCF is relying on the support of local businesses.
“With the client referrals tripling in the past 2 years, this funding will allow local women to continue to access this much-loved service right across the region” Ellie said.
