Learning pathways sponsored by local business

WEA Hunter has launched a program aimed at providing people from all walks of life with learning opportunities. The ‘WEA 200’ program has been designed to provide people with learning experiences that enable them to achieve more. Their efforts will be supported by sponsors who each contribute a minimum of $200.

WEA Hunter General Manager, Rowan Radvan, said that it was not about getting people into vocational education pathways and much as creating learning opportunities.

“Learning should be accessible to everyone. Learning enhances people’s living skills; helps them develop skills in working with others, discover other cultures and opinions, fosters community capacity, personal resilience and reciprocity,” Rowan said.

“We also know that the provision of learning can increase the social capital of our community, it develops people as individuals and creates a rich tapestry of experiences which can lead to progress and collaboration.”

“WEA Hunter’s ‘WEA 200: Legends of Learning’ Program provides access to learning opportunities to people who would find it difficult to do so in their current circumstances. These might be people who have not been engaged in formal education for a long time, cannot afford it or have been unable to access education or learning and have a passion to learn and grow.”

A number of organisations have become foundation members of the program that will help a local person undertake a WEA course in 2016. Some of these include Auto Advantage, Purser Corporate Communication and RTC Commercial.

General Manager of Auto Advantage, Simon Duwner, said that learning should be something that everyone in our community can access.

“It’s a small cost to help someone connect and learn. Ultimately, it’s also about investing in local people and in a broader community,” Simon said.
