Back in 2015, HunterNet recognised a gap in leadership training in the Hunter region and made it the organisation’s mission to provide an avenue for quality young leaders to access the experience and enthusiasm they need.
Today, the HunterNet Future Leaders Program is recognised as the region’s preeminent leadership program for young professionals looking to expand their leadership skills.
Now in its fifth year, the program has supported approximately 100 young leaders to develop their leadership capabilities through an expanded professional network, increased sense of confidence and an understanding of their own leadership style and how to interact with others. As a result of past success, the program has been granted academic standing with the University of Newcastle, allowing graduates to apply for 20 units of credit towards a Master of Business Administration.
As HunterNet prepares to welcome a new cohort of Future Leaders in 2019, HunterNet has also announced a new Program Director. Jacqui Warren was recently promoted to the position of Industry Advisor at HunterNet, and with this appointment she also takes on the role of the Future Leaders Program Director.
HunterNet’s CEO, Tony Cade said Jacqui was a participant in the 2017 program and has since been an active member of the Alumni.
“Jacqui’s appointment to this role is a great example of what can be achieved when we invest in our future leaders,” Tony said.
“It is these future leaders who will drive the next stage of regional economic development, and continue to grow and diversify the region’s industry and business base.
Jacqui said what distinguishes this program from others is that it takes a holistic approach to leadership and draws attention to issues facing the region.
“When I reflect on my own experience participating in the program back in 2017, it still amazes me how much I learned in such a short period of time. The fortnightly sessions not only taught me the theories behind topics such as finance, teamwork and strategic planning, but also gave me practical tools to apply my learnings as soon as I went to work the next day,” Jacqui said.
