The Hunter TAFE Foundation recently announced the recognition of 38 outstanding TAFE NSW students who received $37,000 worth of scholarships and awards to support their educational and career journey.
The awards ceremony celebrated the achievements and resilience of these exceptional individuals who have demonstrated remarkable determination to further their studies despite the challenges faced.
The scholarships and awards, provided through the Hunter TAFE Foundation, aim to support students pursuing vocational education and training (VET) across a range of industries, including Information Technology, Early Childhood, Aviation, Industrial Electronics, Accounting, Health, Music, Fine Arts, Real Estate and Community Services.
The recipients, hailing from diverse backgrounds and communities, have shown exceptional perseverance in their pursuit of education, navigating the complexities of work, study, and the current cost-of- living pressures.
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of these 38 scholarship and award recipients. Their courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to their education, in the face of financial uncertainty, are truly inspiring. In a time when so many are feeling the weight of the cost-of-living crisis, these individuals have shown us what it means to persevere and thrive.
They are not only building brighter futures for themselves but are also contributing to the strength and vitality of our region’s workforce.” Karen Howard, President of the Hunter TAFE Foundation, said. “The support from our generous and loyal donors makes all of this possible and enables the Hunter TAFE Foundation to change lives and empower the next generation of leaders in our communities,” Karen said.
Jason Darney, TAFE NSW Executive Director Northern Region said, “TAFE NSW is proud of our long-standing association with the supporters of the Hunter TAFE Foundation. It is a wonderful example of industry, here in the Hunter and beyond, and TAFE NSW working together to meet industry’s needs with relevant, practical and contemporary training to build their future skilled workforce.”
“We know that 9 out of every 10 jobs in the future will require qualifications, and yet, many of our students struggle with cost of living and the juggle to manage study commitments with financial commitments. The Hunter TAFE Foundation has a long and proud history of helping these outstanding students to reach their full potential” Jason said.
Melanie Cameron received the Kay Peno Encouragement Award for her dedication and resilience whilst studying the Diploma of Community Services and Case Management at TAFE NSW Hamilton Campus. The Kay Peno Encouragement Award was established earlier this year, in memory of long-term Hunter TAFE Foundation Board Director, Kay Peno. The Encouragement Award supports students in their chosen career path, encouraging future female leaders into the workforce. “Studying with TAFE NSW was the turning point in my life. Receiving this award will allow me to purchase a new laptop to pursue my educational goals. The support of the Foundation has given me the confidence and resolve that I am on the right path to achieving my career goal in social work,” Melanie said.
