Hunter local wins state-wide construction industry award

After a rigorous judging process, North Construction and Building’s Apprentice, Brady Casey was named Apprentice of the Year at the Master Builders Association 2019 Excellence in Construction Awards held earlier this month.

The Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Construction Awards is recognised throughout the industry as the hallmark annual event for the commercial, industrial and civil engineering sector

The Awards celebrate outstanding achievements by companies and individuals in the NSW building and construction industry.

Brady expressed that despite the challenges and time put into each project that it had all been worth it and to be awarded was a very special moment.

“This award means so much to me,” Brady said.

“It makes all the challenges along the way, all that extra time I have put into the projects that I thought went unnoticed worth it. I really enjoy my career and know this is where my future is.”

Brady started with North Construction and Building in 2016 as a mature-age apprentice having previously studied civil engineering at university.

He said that building and construction had always been a long passion of his.

“Being up close, on site is what I enjoy most. Since the age of six I knew I wanted to be a builder. Working with North Construction and Building has provided me with plenty of opportunity to further develop my skills and career growth.”

From day one at North, Brady has been regarded as a member of staff who has taken a very diligent approach to his training and shown strong drive with his growth and learning. He relates excellently with the trades quickly gaining respect and forming a rapport with all those around him.

Joe Rapisarda, a site manager at North Construction and Building, reinforced this sentiment saying it had been a pleasure working with Brady and that his expertise was impressive.

“I had the pleasure of working with Brady on North’s Villawood Aged Cared Project where I was the site manager and he was my apprentice,” he said.

“I can honestly say that Brady is the best apprentice I have ever worked with in the 32 years I’ve been in the industry. Not only is he one of the most diligent, loyal and hard-working apprentices I have ever worked with, but also one of the most meticulous and detail-oriented.”

Joe said that Brady’s overall character and attitude to work is an invaluable asset to the North Construction and Building team.

As recipient of this award, Brady then moved on to be a a finalist in the Master Builders Association National Excellence in Building & Construction Awards.

He was successfully awarded the National Apprentice of the Year for his ongoing work with North Construction and Building at the MBA National Excellence Awards ceremony, held on 22 November.

Brady said he was thrilled to be recognised and grateful for the opportunities North gave him to get him to where he is now.

“I’m excited and honoured to be recognised as part of these awards,” Brady said.

“To be recognised at the State level and then as a winner at the National level by an organisation doing so much to produce high quality apprentices in an industry I am passionate about is amazing.”
