Newcastle-based company, Ethos Health, has been selected as one of the three successful innovators in the inaugural Gateway to Innovate (GtI) program, launched by Transport for NSW.
The recent announcement, made at the Road Australia annual lunch by the Hon. John Graham, marks a significant milestone for the company, which will now pilot its innovative FatigueTech solution on major infrastructure projects across the state.
The Gateway to Innovate program provides a unique pathway for organisations to trial ready-to-deploy innovations within the transport sector. Unlike traditional research and development grants, GtI focuses on technologies that are prepared for real-world application, enabling pilot programs on live Transport for NSW projects.
Ethos Health’s FatigueTech was chosen for its novel approach to fatigue management—a critical safety issue in industries such as transport and construction. Inspired by fatigue management techniques from elite sports and mining sectors, FatigueTech provides real-time monitoring and actionable insights to help companies manage worker fatigue more effectively. The technology aims to improve operational efficiency by helping businesses automate fatigue management and create safer, more productive work environments.
Chris Morton, Business Manager at Ethos Health, shared the team’s motivation behind the innovation, “We care about people. Whether its preventing injuries, helping workers stay safe on long shifts, or supporting their overall wellbeing, we know we can make a real difference.” This passion for improving the safety and health of workers is at the core of FatigueTech, which is designed to ensure that workers are not only safe but also at their best, both mentally and physically.
“We want to prove that managing fatigue isn’t a barrier to productivity—it’s the key to unlocking it,” Chris said.
“When people are healthy, happy, and safe, they work better, and that’s good for everyone.” This philosophy drives Ethos Health’s commitment to transforming how fatigue is managed across industries, especially in high-risk sectors.
The Gateway to Innovate program received an overwhelming response, with more than 3,100 engagements and 66 submissions from contractors, consultants, manufacturers, and specialists. The three selected innovations will be piloted on Transport for NSW infrastructure projects starting in 2025. These projects are expected to significantly enhance productivity, safety, and operational efficiency.
For Ethos Health, this recognition highlights the company’s growing reputation as a leader in workplace safety technology. With the upcoming pilot phase, the team is poised to demonstrate the real-world impact of FatigueTech in addressing one of the transport sector’s most pressing challenges.
