Equal Futures Project Incorporates

Equal Futures Project (EFP) is committed to diversity and achieving a more equitable and inclusive society.

For over 10 years the organisation has raised both awareness and funds to support this goal, holding events and supporting local charity partners, and it has now formalised its governance becoming an incorporated entity and inviting membership.

Inaugural EFP President, Dr Kirsten Molloy said it is exciting to move into a new year and be able to offer more than ever for others in the community as an incorporated entity.

“As we move into 2021, we are broadening our commitment to equity and diversity across all aspects – gender, Indigenous background, religion or faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability status and any other group who have historically been disadvantaged or underrepresented,” Kirsten said.

“We believe that allies for these groups play a critical role in advancing equity and this is our focus for 2021.

“We will be encouraging membership and sharing information about what it means to be an ally and the impact that allies can have,” she said.

The first 2021 event marks International Women’s Day with a panel of local business representatives discussing how we can be a good ally and challenge for change in gender diversity.

The event will be hosted by Natasha Beyersdorf on Friday 5 March at Wests Newcastle with panellists; Associate Professor Kathleen Butler, Head of Institute at the Wollotuka Institute and inaugural Diversity Award winner, Taylah Gray, University of Newcastle law student and advocate and Will Wright, Managing Director of Douglas Partners and previous Diversity Award winner.

“Uncertainty around restrictions has made planning for our 2021 breakfast more challenging than in previous years, but we are excited to bring together some local experts to mark International Women’s Day.”

“We hope to be planning a larger event later in the year with a keynote speaker as well as our Diversity Awards and other smaller activities.

“The Equal Futures Project has raised almost $190,000 through its IWD breakfasts and we hope 2021 will build on this wonderful contribution,” Kirsten concluded.

Tickets for the 2021 International Women’s Day panel event are now on sale, but are limited.
