Design Anthology believes that collaboration in design is a sure way to increase the value of your product. Which is the driving force behind their recent move to shared premises with Tecevo.
Design Anthology has been delivering product development and innovation from the Business Growth Centre in Gateshead since 2009. This environment allowed Josh Jeffress, Design Anthology’s Principal, to establish and grow new networks while receiving mentoring from leading Hunter business owners.
With a number of awards under his belt; winner of the Lake Macquarie business excellence awards in entrepreneurship and innovation as well as the young business person of the year, Josh recently graduated from the Business Growth Centre and relocated Design Anthology to shared facilities with another Hunter-based business, Tecevo.
Tecevo specialises in mechatronics, software, engineering and electronics – a perfect fit with Design Anthology’s expertise in product development and manufacturing. Josh says that this combination will dramatically speed up Design Anthology’s development process through direct collaboration.
“The great thing about being in the new office is that I can walk out into the workshop and talk to the engineers and brainstorm solutions to our client’s needs. There’s no downtime and no delay,” Josh said.
Another advantage of the new office is that the Design Anthology team has access to a larger workshop space for prototyping, model-making and small production runs.
“We can meet with a client on Monday morning, conduct our research and then develop a range of concepts over a few days. By Friday, we can be creating computer 3D models and by Friday afternoon we can be out in the workshop building prototypes to test. It’s a rapid, iterative process that has become much easier to execute since the move.”
Once Design Anthology moves through detailed development and the design is agreed with the client, Design Anthology’s increased production capacity means that products can be manufactured in-house.
“That’s the key difference that Design Anthology offers; the ability to make the thing that we design.”
The Design Anthology team can now be found at 5 Nevin Close, Gateshead, NSW.
