Daracon Group’s own Tim Lamb has been crowned the best plant operator in the state, taking out top honours at the NSW Final of the prestigious CAT Global Operator Challenge on Friday, 28 March.
Competing against elite operators from across New South Wales, Tim’s skill, speed and precision saw him rise above the rest at the WesTrac Tomago Dig Pit. He will now represent the state and Daracon, at the Asia Pacific Regional Semi-Final in Japan this October.
The internationally recognised CAT Global Operator Challenge puts competitors through their paces with a series of technical, real-world challenges designed to test accuracy, safety, problem-solving and efficiency. Tim’s performance ticked all the boxes, earning praise from both judges and peers.
“The whole team is incredibly proud of Tim’s success,” said Cory Hay, Divisional Manager of Plant & Transport at Daracon Group. “This win speaks volumes about the depth of talent and commitment we have here. Tim’s calm approach and attention to detail make him a standout, and we’ll be backing him all the way to Japan.”
For Tim, the win was a moment of personal and professional pride.
“I’m truly honoured to represent Daracon and NSW on the international stage,” Tim said. “This competition is about more than just speed, it’s about doing the job right, safely, and with precision. I’m excited for the challenge ahead.”
The Asia Pacific Regional Semi-Final will see Tim go up against the region’s top operators, all vying for a place in the global finals. It’s a major opportunity to showcase Daracon’s capability on a world stage, and further highlight the skills coming out of the Hunter’s construction and civil industries.
“We know Tim will bring the same focus and professionalism he showed at the NSW final,” Cory said. “This is a huge achievement, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.”
