Coal & Allied is inviting nominations to fill a current Community Development Fund Committee vacancy.
A Committee, made up of company and community representatives, governs the Coal & Allied Community Development Fund. Committee members are responsible for assessing and making recommendations on funding proposals received by the Fund.
The Committee also informs the policy and guidelines for the operation of the Fund, and promotes the Fund as a source of support for local community groups and organisations.
The Fund works across Singleton, Muswellbrook, and the Upper Hunter, funding projects in areas of health, education, business enterprise, agriculture and environment.
Rio Tinto Manager Community Relations NSW, Shannon Garcia, said the Fund allows Coal & Allied to make a broader contribution to the community, beyond direct employment, procurement and royalties.
“We have been really lucky to work with some wonderful community partners on a range of projects since the Fund was established in 1995,” Shannon said.
“It's a source of funding for groups and organisations looking to do great things in the local community. Our support is not always about the dollars, although we know this helps, but if we can offer time and skills, link up groups with others to get the most from their project, then we do that as well.”
“We value being part of the local area and the Fund provides Coal & Allied an opportunity to talk and work with members of the community that may not typically have a direct link with our operations.”
The Community Development Fund Committee comprises of representatives from senior leadership within Coal & Allied in the Hunter Valley and community representatives.
Coal & Allied are inviting community members residing in the Singleton, Muswellbrook or Upper Hunter Shires who are interested in being involved in the community, and are willing, enthusiastic and available, and who may have business or board experience to apply.
Applications can be sent to cnacommunityrelations@riotinto.com or posted to PO Box 315, Singleton NSW 2330.
