The Committee for the Hunter has welcomed the first elected board of nine Directors, which was declared at their annual general meeting held last month.
The Committee, a regional advocacy body providing thought leadership and a unified voice for the Hunter, has been well served by an experienced and committed interim board since its inception in late 2019.
Two new appointments join seven of the previous Directors who have since returned to the board. The positions of Chair and Deputy Chair will be considered at the first meeting of the new board this month along with the appointment of four additional Directors.
The interim chair, Richard Anicich AM thanked the outgoing board acknowledging their hard work and commitment to the Committee and the development of the Hunter region.
“With the new Board, The Committee is entering an exciting phase where we can build on the solid foundations laid over the last couple of years,” he said.
“Having now found an independent voice, the Board has a role, and indeed an obligation, to drive thought and leadership on a vision for the future of the Hunter region and its economy in the coming decades.”
In reappointing several Directors, the new Board will retain respected local leaders, such as:
- Richard Anicich AM;
- Craig Carmody, CEO, Port of Newcastle;
- Darren Cleary, Managing Director of Hunter Water;
- Peter Cock, CEO of Newcastle Airport;
- Hennie du Plooy, CEO of Port Waratah Coal Services;
- Bradley Webb, Executive Director People Care of Anglican Diocese of Newcastle; and
- Alex Zelinsky, Vice-Chancellor and President of University of Newcastle.
These directors are joined by new Directors;
- Morven Cameron, CEO, Lake Macquarie City Council;
- and Lauren Cruz, Director Strategic Relations and Communication for the Hunter New England Local Health District.
The Committee has adopted staggered terms of appointment for its inaugural Board to support a level of renewal while maintaining continuity and a smooth transition for future new Directors.
