Christmas giving at Wests

Hunter families that are in need of a helping hand this Christmas will benefit from The Salvation Army and Wests teaming up for a second year as they turn their Christmas trees into Giving Trees in aid of supporting the local community.

Working alongside the Salvation Army, Wests' Giving Tree Appeal will see ten trees displayed across Wests and Balance Health Club locations.

Wests Group CEO Philip Gardner said the aim of the Wests' Giving Tree Appeal was to encourage staff, members and guests to get behind a worthy cause by helping those in need this Christmas.

“The community support last year was impressive and we are looking forward to being involved again this year,” Philip said.

Members of the community can simply take a gift tag from the tree and specify the age and gender of a suitable recipient and place it with their gift unwrapped under one of the trees.

Manager of the Salvation Army Welfare Centre in Newcastle, Howard Mole said they encouraged donations to be unwrapped gifts to suit various ages, such as toys, board games, sports balls, beach towels, bags and books for children, teenagers and adults.

“Approximately 100,000 people nationally turn to the Salvation Army for assistance at Christmas, so working alongside The Wests Group again this year will enable us to help more families and we thank each person in advance for their donation.”

The Wests' Christmas Giving Trees will be located at Wests New Lambton, Balance New Lambton, Wests Cardiff, Wests Mayfield, Balance Mayfield, Wests Nelson Bay Diggers, Balance Nelson Bay and Balance City on Hunter Street, Newcastle until Monday, 9 December 2013.
