Newcastle companies Carnelian Projects and Inspire Property & Finance are calling on other local businesses to ‘gimme five’.
The organisations are the proud founders of 5K A Day In May, which asks individuals and businesses to walk, run, swim or cycle five kilometres every day in May with funds raised going to Asthma Foundation NSW.
Research indicates that there are 400 deaths to asthma every year in Australia and 1 in 10 Aussies has asthma.
Kerri-Ann and Wade Hooper of Carnelian Projects and Inspire Property & Finance have had first-hand experience with asthma, which is why they’re so passionate about raising funds for 5K A Day In May.
“My husband Wade and our son Cameron have had asthma since birth. Cameron has been in and out of hospital from a very young age. With the help of The Asthma Foundation as well as new medical technology, Cameron has been able to manage his asthma well and live a healthy life,” Kerri-Ann said.
Natalie Doolan of Carnelian Projects said the daily challenge need not be daunting.
“Don’t let the idea of five kilometres deter you from taking part, it can be done in many ways and it’s a great activity to encourage your staff to take part in,” Natalie said.
How can your business join in?
- You certainly don’t need to do it alone. Form a team with your colleagues or friends and start up a roster for one participant each day in May
- Grab four friends and each walk one kilometre at lunchtime
- Meet up with Wade of Inspire Property & Finance at 7.30am every day in May as he walks from Merewether Baths to the ANZAC Memorial Walk and back
Funds raised from 5K A Day In May will go to The Asthma Foundation NSW for research to further improve the lives of those living with asthma.
The Foundation has championed many technological advances in medication and also education that now sees asthma as a manageable condition for more than 2 million Australians.
