Newcastle Permanent Building Society has announced this week, the retirement from its Board of long-serving Non-Executive Director Barrie Lewis.
Barrie retires after 20 years serving on the Building Society’s Board of Directors, and 10 years as a Director of the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation.
Chairman Michael Slater said Barrie held a term as Chairman during his tenure, as well as key roles in the Board’s audit and corporate governance & nominations committees.
“Barrie has provided an invaluable contribution to the Board over a lengthy period and has been a great support in his contribution to the Board and personally in my role as Chairman,” Michael said.
Barrie was appointed to the Board in the year the Building Society opened its 39th branch, located at Tuggerah. Today, the network of 59 branches extends to Ballina, Tamworth and Bathurst, as well as most suburbs of the Hunter and Central Coast regions.
A key achievement of the Board of Directors during Barrie’s service was the establishment of the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation to commemorate Newcastle Permanent’s 100th anniversary, with $30 million donated to the Charitable Foundation by the Building Society.
“Barrie’s fellow Directors and I are sad to see his departure, and wish him the very best for his well-deserved retirement,” Michael added.
