Newcastle-based technology company 4Tel has marked a major milestone – 25 years of delivering cutting-edge solutions to the global transport industry.
The achievement was celebrated at a recent cocktail event in Newcastle, attended by clients, past and present employees, their families, and Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Dr Ross Kerridge.
Founded in 1999, 4Tel has grown from a small consultancy into a global transport technology provider operating across Australia, the United States, and Africa. The company now holds 32 trademarks and eight patents, showcasing its commitment to innovation and intellectual property development.
“We proudly remain an Australian family-owned business, developing world-class technology from Newcastle,” said Founder and Company Director, Derel Wust.
“Our talented team of innovative thinkers continuously push boundaries to solve real industry problems. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the work we do has a direct impact on the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of transport networks.”
A highlight of the celebration was the launch of a commemorative video reflecting on 4Tel’s 25-year journey. The event also recognised long-serving employees with Milestone Awards for 10, 15 and 20 years of service, further reinforcing the company’s strong internal culture.
4Tel provides trusted control and information management systems across all transport modes, including rail, light rail, ports, ferries and buses. Its clients include Transport for NSW, ARTC, Transdev Sydney Ferries, Port Botany, V/Line, and VicTrack.
The company’s innovations also extend to artificial intelligence and machine learning through its subsidiary 4AI Systems, which is developing industry-leading onboard rail safety solutions.
Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Dr Ross Kerridge, commended 4Tel’s contribution to the local economy and community.
“4Tel is developing a very skilled workforce within our community, employing 83 local staff and growing many of whom are graduates from the University of Newcastle,” Cr Kerridge said.
“They are an example of world-class technology being developed right here in Newcastle, and this is great for our city’s future. I congratulate them on 25 successful years and look forward to seeing what comes next.”
