The Equal Futures Project has its sights set on big things in 2020, with tickets now available to its 10th annual International Women’s Day Breakfast and a variety of new initiatives to support diversity being rolled out this year.
Striving to raise awareness of inequality in the workplace, home and community and create a more equitable and inclusive society, the organisation is now looking for charity partners to support through its fundraising efforts this year.
One of its most significant fundraising activities is the annual International Women’s Day Breakfast.
For the anniversary event to be held on 6 March at NEX in Newcastle, Prof. Kerryn Phelps, AM will deliver the keynote address with the theme A 2020 Vision: reflecting on the past and what we can achieve for diversity this decade.
Kerryn is a doctor, businesswoman, public health and civil rights advocate, author, media commentator, health communicator, and mother of three. In 2018, in the federal by-election, she was the first woman and independent to be elected to the seat of Wentworth in the House of Representatives. She was also the first female President of the Australian Medical Association.
Chair of Equal Futures, Dr Kirsten Molloy said over the years the organisation has raised over $160,000 towards creating an inclusive culture where diversity is respected and valued.
“As Equal Futures celebrates its 10th anniversary International Women’s Day Breakfast, we are looking ahead to what else we can achieve in 2020,” Kirsten said.
“We want to celebrate diversity broadly and work to create inclusive culture across local businesses and our community. We are inviting charities who work to encourage diversity or to support minority groups to partner with us and be beneficiaries of our fundraising efforts.”
Expressions of interest from charity partners are open until 31 January.
The Equal Futures Project is also encouraging local business people to step up and volunteer on the committee.
