New team, new approach for the Newcastle Show

The Newcastle Show is looking for new members of its Board.

The Board of the Show Association has the responsibility of ensuring the future of the Show. The Board consists of eight members, with two vacancies created by the election of the new President and the appointment of the former President as General Manager.

In July, former Show President, Brett Gleeson stood down to take on the role of General Manager and Show Secretary. This led to the election of Lauren Haskins as the first female President in the 115-year history of the Association.

Lauren said the Board is looking to shake up the way they do things.

“We have a new executive team, and we are looking to do things differently,” Lauren said.

Traditionally, people have been promoted through the ranks of the show, often starting out as a volunteer steward then becoming a chief steward or head of a section and then joining the Board.

“It’s time to do things differently. We are looking to the community, especially the business community, to provide a greater range of business experience and expertise to assist the show to move forward and secure a bright and sustainable future,” Lauren said.

The eight member Board, which meets monthly works at a strategic and governance level and oversees the direction of the show.

“We want to make two appointments which will add to and complement the skills and expertise of existing board members,” Brett said.

“We are particularly interested in people who have business experience and expertise in marketing, event planning and management and technology.

“Most of all, new appointees will need a passion for the Show and be prepared to make an ongoing commitment to the Show.”

An information package including an expression of interest form is available from the Show’s website. Applications close on 3 October 2017.

Plans are advancing well for the 2018 Show, which will run from 2-4 March 2018.
