Glenn Thornton has been appointed by TSA Management as the newest General Manager for Northern New South Wales.
Having recently worked at the Port of Newcastle (PON) as Executive Manager, Projects, and Assets, Glenn has decades of experience running projects and organisations in the Hunter region and across Australia. This has included work in the transport, energy, water, and environment sectors.
At PON, Glenn built and led a team to deliver a program of $200m projects. He was also involved in the master planning phase for the proposed Deepwater Container Terminal, valued at 2.4 billion dollars.
Glenn also implemented a fully integrated Project Management System and Asset Management Systems across 954 hectares of PON land split across five strategic precincts.
Glenn said that Newcastle and the Hunter is going through a significant period of growth and strength.
“We are now seeing opportunities of huge significance realised through investment into infrastructure at the Port of Newcastle and Newcastle Airport,” Glenn said.
“The energy sector in the Hunter has the nation’s focus, with the launch of significant hydrogen, solar and windfarm projects now in the pipeline.
“Investigations into Fast or Faster Rail between Newcastle and Sydney will be a catalyst for our region to attract even more people, investment and business in the Hunter. I’m proud to support TSA’s clients and Newcastle team through this exciting period.”
Glenn’s addition to TSA’s Northern NSW team strengthens their Advisory offering in the Hunter and
Northern NSW, with Glenn bringing his experience as Director, Advisory (AUS) and Regional Director (NSW) for WSP.
During his time there, Glenn worked on the Hunter Water Asset Solutions Program, pulling together a locally based team that included the national water group and the advisory group, delivering a strong and credible local team.
After being short-listed, WSP was appointed as the successful bidder and worked closely with Hunter Water on a six-year program to upgrade water infrastructure throughout the Hunter.
Glenn also has experience in energy and hydrogen, smart cities, community consultation, rail andlogistics, having worked closely with the City of Newcastle on implementing its smart city strategy and with the City of Auckland on a hydrogen buses network benchmarking study. He was also part of the delivery leadership teams on the Newcastle Light Rail, Hunter Expressway and Wagga Wagga Intermodal projects.
TSA’s Regional General Manager of NSW, Marianne Foley said they are looking forward to having Glenn’s leadership in Northern NSW, based out of their Newcastle office.
“We are reinforcing our position in Northern NSW with someone who is experienced, passionate about the region and will be a great leader for the team,” Marianne said.
“Our clients want to hear more from us in the area to help with the transition to a new economy as well as delivering infrastructure for the residents of Northern NSW, and Glenn is someone who can help them.”
Glenn will work closely with Jason McCosker, who will fill the new role of GM Property, Northern NSW. Focusing on the property sector, Jason’s new role will enable him to take on Project Director roles, making him more available to key clients in the region.
