Tomago Aluminum supports NSW flood victims

Employees of Tomago Aluminium have dug into their own pockets to help those affected by the recent floods across NSW.

Responding to what has been one of Australia’s worst recorded flood disasters, leaving thousands of people displaced from their homes and an estimated 18,000 properties severely impacted, a Tomago Flood Appeal was launched asking employees to donate from their pay towards flood victims.

Tomago Aluminium also showed its support by matching more than the employee donations and together they raised $20,000.

A cheque was presented to The Salvation Army last week during a special morning tea on-site. The Salvation Army are working on the ground directly supporting families affected.

National Public Relations Secretary of The Salvation Army Australia, Major Bruce Harmer said, “The flood disaster earlier this year is an ongoing crisis.”

“We gratefully thank Tomago and their employees for their generous financial contribution, so The Salvation Army can continue to stand alongside and support those Australians devastated by the floods.”

After the initial emergency response phase, The Salvation Army will remain in communities to ensure the many local communities impacted by these floods are supported and assisted practically, emotionally, and financially through the recovery and rebuild phases of this disaster.

It’s not the first time that Tomago employees have got behind an external cause like this. In 2018, employees also came together to support struggling drought-stricken farmers. Once again, they donated from their pay, which was matched by the company for The Buy a Bale campaign and in 2020 they raised $50,000 in their Bushfire Appeal to the RFS.

Tomago Aluminium’s Communications Advisor, Katie Burns said, “Everyone on-site is always happy to come together and get behind a good cause. At Tomago Aluminium we take great pride in giving back to our community.”

The company also donates over $60,000 each year to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and over $100,000 each year to many different local charities and community events.
