Three local businesses open their hearts to unite

Three of Newcastle’s feel-good businesses have united to create Newcastle’s newest adult and kid friendly playground in Carrington.

The Grateful Boutique, Pineapple Fitness (previously BUF Girls) and The Mexican Cantina share a similar message and values that have inspired the collaborative project. Each business defines its purpose to be to support people to become happier in themselves, one through physical movement, one through local healthy food and one through giving.

The new healthy, feel-good adult and child friendly playground is called Island Life.

The name was coined based on the nickname of The Island given to the harbour side, water locked section between the harbour and two bridges – Carrington.

The name also has a deeper meaning for its creators. It’s a place where, as you would with many island communities, find families coming together, watch each other’s children, eat food that’s sourced locally or that you harvested yourself and where everything is done with purpose.

Lead Driver of Gratitude at The Grateful, Jessica Shuwalow said the playground is designed to offer that connection people long for.

“We live in a society where so many of us are longing for the simple things and connection again, so Island Life is designed to do just that,” Jessica said.

“At the core, each of our businesses just want to make people happy, we (The Grateful) do this by providing people with a simple way to give back to the community. The Mexican Cantina does this by nourishing families and friends with healthy food and Pineapple Fitness does this through physical movement and helping people to love all of themselves.”

Island Life is located at 79 Young Street, Carrington. The front building homes The Grateful Boutique, the grass section down the side of the driveway will house The Mexican Cantina food truck and at the back are the offices of Pineapple Fitness.

Island Life will generally be open from Wednesday to Saturday late morning to mid-afternoon, with a couple of nights’ evening trade.

Island Life

Island Life is Newcastle's hidden adult and kid friendly playground in the heart of Carrington. The Grateful Boutique, The Mexican Cantina and Pineapple Fitness make up Island Life.

Island Life is all about making people happy: one business through giving, one through healthy food and one through physical movement. It’s a place where, as you would with many island communities, you’ll find families coming together, you watch each other’s children, you eat food that’s sourced locally or that you harvested yourself and everything is done with purpose.

Island Life is open Wednesday to Saturday during lunch periods and some evenings and is located at 79 Young Street Carrington.
