Three Hunter businesses recognised for human workplaces

Three local Hunter businesses have recently received global recognition for their experiments leading them towards becoming 100 per cent human workplaces.

Experienced Business Solutions (EBS), UQ Power and Lake Macquarie City Council (LMCC) were all included in a global publication known as the 100% Human at Work experiments collection published by Virgin Unite’s B Team group.

The publication aims to showcase companies globally who are passionate about re-defining and changing work for good. This is the second edition following the first, which was released in 2015. It aims to provide inspiration to other organisations to try new things, to experiment and explore new ways of working in order to make workplaces more human.

Local small business bookkeeping and accountancy firm, Experienced Business Solutions was featured due to its team building initiatives, including staff strengths testing, flow rate monitoring, quarterly planning, and orientation processes.

Founder, Deborah Jensen believes that“leadership occurs in everything you do, not just when you happen to have a title”.

“The fact that we have global business leaders such as Richard Branson and Ariana Huffington leading the charge by pulling together the B-Team and working with business at every level is truly inspiring,” said Deborah.

“To be included and recognised in this publication shows a deep understanding of the contribution and significant role small business plays in society. No matter how small you are, you can make a difference.”

Council’s Acting Director Community Development, Laura Kendall said it is terrific to have a local government organisation recognised alongside global businesses that are more commonly known as great places to work and to contribute to a better tomorrow.

“As a dynamic, complex organisation of more than 1,000 people, we continue to look for ways to improve, collaborate, and innovate to make Council a modern, successful and enjoyable place to work,” Laura said.

“Our inclusion in this publication is a testament to the headway we’re making in this area.”

Local company culture and leadership development firm, UQ Power has worked with and supported both EBS and LMCC in their culture development and in making their workplaces more human-centric and fit for the future of work.

“It is so wonderful to see local Hunter businesses being showcased on this global stage alongside major companies such as Zappos, Boston Consulting Group, and Red Bull,” said Heidi Alexandra Pollard, CEO of UQ Power.

“This publication demonstrates that more human workplaces also benefit society, the wellbeing of their people and experience healthy profits also.”
