Prosperity pink precinct proves illuminating

Pink illuminations lit up the night sky in Waratah when Calvary Mater Newcastle put on its own light show in support of breast cancer awareness month.

Calvary Mater Newcastle is the main cancer care and research centre in the Hunter region, treating many patients each week with various types of cancer.

CEO Greg Flint said the new illumination project would see the hospital featured in an array of colours throughout the year, representing national cancer awareness campaigns that signify the many types of cancer we need to be vigilant about in our community.

“The Prosperity Pink Precinct, named after its lighting sponsor, Prosperity Advisers, was transformed into a stunning pink illumination during October in a salute to breast cancer awareness month, a campaign to inform the community about breast cancer,” Greg said.

“It is important that as the main hospital for cancer treatment that we lead the way with awareness, and the new colourful illumination of our hospital, supported by our partner in this initiative, Prosperity Advisers, is a great way to demonstrate both our support and understanding of cancer and its devastating impact in our community.

Prosperity CEO, Allan McKeown, said their decision to support the Calvary Mater in the inaugural illumination of the hospital in pink was an easy one and one they are proud to be part of.

“Our team, clients and their families have all been impacted by a devastating cancer diagnosis at some time or another,” Allan said.

“We are fortunate in the Hunter to have world class medical teams and the facilities to treat this dreadful disease.  We know that the contributions that we make as a firm to raise awareness, provide support and donations to cancer research is very well spent.”

“Professor John Forbes inspired everyone on the launch night of the illumination. John has put the Hunter Region on the map as a significant contributor to breast cancer clinical research. It was great to hear about his passion to find a cure and of the new clinical trial ‘dubbed the next generation in breast cancer research’, that will begin in the Hunter.”

Over their 25 years Prosperity Advisers have been regular supporters of community groups and many charitable causes.  These include the Red Cross, Indigenous services, local surf clubs, children’s charities such as their long-standing association with Ronald McDonald house and support of cancer and heart research.
