Nominations now open to University’s Alumni Awards

Nominations to the University of Newcastle’s distinguished 2017 Alumni Awards are now open.

The awards recognise and celebrate innovation, creativity and exceptional leadership of those alumni who inspire others through their local, national and international achievements.

The program culminates in a gala Alumni Awards ceremony on Friday 28 July in the University’s Great Hall, Callaghan Campus.

Director of Advancement at the University of Newcastle, Rebecca Hazell said the awards recognise the most inspiring and exceptional graduates from a diverse range of backgrounds, both local and across the globe.

“Nominating an alumnus who demonstrates excellence in his/her field provides the opportunity to recognise their outstanding achievements as well as share their amazing stories and ultimately inspire others, just like our 2016 recipients have,” Rebecca said.

Professor ER Meng Hwa is named as one of the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s top 126 most influential Engineers and was the 2016 recipient of the Alumni Medal for Professional Excellence.

ER said he chose to come to the University of Newcastle as it is regarded as one of the best universities for research output.

“The university’s motto, I Look Ahead, has been an inspiration and motivation for me in my career, I am feeling grateful for the past and I look forward to the future.”

There are nine award categories:

  1. Alumni Medal for Professional Excellence
  2. Newton-John Award for Innovation and Creativity
  3. Exceptional Community Service
  4. Regional Leadership Award
  5. National Leadership Award
  6. International Leadership Award
