New initiative set to increase skills in the Hunter

To assist employers in the Hunter region address their skill shortages, Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions (MWLFS) has announced their new program Skills for the Hunter.

MWLFS has a limited number of six month subsidised placements, which will focus on identifying skill shortages in the Hunter region.

The initiative encourages local employers to take on eligible jobseekers in the Hunter region as a part-time Trainee or Apprentice.

Barry Miller, Manager of Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions (Cessnock and Kurri Kurri) says that in today’s turbulent business environment, Skills for the Hunter will be of great benefit to local employers needing to meet skill shortages.

“With the downturn in the mining sector, and the current challenging economic conditions for business, some employers are finding it difficult to hire new staff who might not immediately be fully productive,” Barry said.

“Skills for the Hunter provides employers with the opportunity to adequately train their new Employee during that initial period when productivity is low.”

“Following six months of training, and support by MWLFS, the employer will have a skilled, productive worker, who is competent and contributing more effectively to the ongoing success of the business.”

Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions will provide financial assistance with traineeship fees, regular wage subsidy payments for the first six months and support the Trainee in the workplace for as long as required.
