Last week a group of four local businesspeople headed to Nepal to film a documentary about child trafficking.

The project is spearheaded by Belinda Bow, founder of Green Chilli Marketing and also an Ambassador for 3 Angels Nepal.

3 Angels Nepal have devised excellent strategies to defeat the traffickers says Belinda.

“Setting up alternative checkpoints on the Indian/Nepalese border, they rescue an average of 4,300 girls a year,” Belinda said.

“A radio outreach program broadcasts across Nepal to educate the people, particularly in rural areas, about the dangers, the risk and subterfuge that traffickers use to exploit their victims.”

“I’m fortunate enough to be born in the lucky country, to have the opportunity to work for myself so I can afford to take time out and help those who miss out simply because they were born in the wrong country.”

“The documentary will be a story about women; a story about family.”

To produce the documentary Belinda is joined by cinematographer Daniel Bracken of Native Media and Design, Melissa Histon of Melissa Histon Photography and benefactor Robin Raymond.

Belinda was spurred into action after a previous trip to Nepal where she became aware of villages devoid of women and children.

“That’s the situation some Nepalese villages face because all the women and children have been sold by their parents, or drugged and stolen by smugglers to be taken into a life of slavery,” Belinda said.

“But they aren’t just villages without women. They are villages without a future because when you take a girl, you take generations.”
