Last days to donate a gift for a child in need in the Salvo’s Christmas Appeal

Newcastle Permanent is asking the community to help make this Christmas memorable for children in need by adding one more item to their Christmas shopping list.

The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Appeal is collecting donations at Newcastle Permanent’s branches and head office for children who might otherwise not receive gifts this festive season—particularly teenagers.

Newcastle Permanent CEO, Terry Millett said that the generosity of the community so far has been remarkable, however more donations were needed to provide a gift for the many thousands of children in need across the state.

“The generosity of our community this year has been extraordinary, but despite this, we still need more donations. We’re hoping to see the donations coming until right before Christmas,” Terry said.

“This appeal partnership with the Salvation Army has been running for close to 30 years and each year we see lots of toys for younger kids donated. But, when it comes to the 10 to 15-year-old bracket, it can be slim pickings – the Salvos are asking people to keep teens in mind when selecting a gift to donate.”

Gifts suitable for tweens and teens include clothes, gift vouchers, books, electronic devices, fashion accessories, sporting equipment, beauty products, and games.

Salvation Army Social Programs Liaison Officer, Major Christine Martin said the Salvos are immensely grateful for this meaningful partnership with Newcastle Permanent and extends thanks to the wider community for their support.

“We are so blessed to experience an incredible show of public generosity, particularly at Christmas. Our partnership with the Newcastle Permanent Building Society allows every community to reach out and extend the spirit of giving to people in need, and the need is indeed great,” Christine said.

“By donating a gift at a Newcastle Permanent branch, you can change what may have been a Christmas of stress and hardship into one of hope and that’s the most important gift anyone can give.”

Donation boxes are in all Newcastle Permanent branches and in head office and the collection will run until Wednesday 20 December.
