Hunter-based training company Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC) continued to demonstrate it is a leader in its field after two of its employees took out top honours at the 2014 NSW & ACT Group Training Association (GTA) Awards held in Sydney on Friday night.
Nathan Anderson beat five finalists to take out Indigenous Apprentice/Trainee of the Year whilst Samantha Tindiglia beat four finalists to take out School-Based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year.
HVTC won more awards than any other training company on the night.
Nathan is a warehousing trainee, hosted by Centennial Coal’s Myuna Colliery. He is a young father and footy fanatic from The Entrance. Samantha is a Northern Rivers student and is hosted by Care-Ring Children’s Centre, a Northern Rivers’ preschool and long day care centre.
At the awards, Nathan said that being an inspiring role model for his community and family is what motivates him to achieve in the workplace and beyond.
“I’d like to promote a positive image for Indigenous men in my community and inspire other young Koori and Murri men to strive for excellence in the workplace,” Nathan said.
Samantha said looking after people’s children is a very important task, a huge responsibility and a task that she loves.
This award tops off a very successful year for Nathan. He is a finalist for Young Achiever of the Year in the 2014 Australian Mining Prospect Awards, which will be announced on 24 October 2014. In August he was also one of 21 group training apprentices and trainees from around Australia invited to attend a Today’s Skills; Tomorrow’s Leaders leadership program in Canberra.
HVTC had seven finalists in the GTA Awards, more than any other group training company. The other finalists included HVTC Hunter’s Tim Koller, a fourth year engineering mechanical apprentice from Belmont who is hosted by Centennial Coal Mandalong.
HVTC CEO Sharon Smith attended the event to support the finalists. She congratulated Nathan, Samantha and the other finalists on their achievements.
This result is an absolute credit to our talented trainees and apprentices, their host employers and to our dedicated and experienced staff,” Sharon said.
