HVTC opens new Skills Centre

HVTC opens new Skills Centre

Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC) will ‘officially’ open its new $5 million Skills Centre today.

HVTC outgrew its East Greta Junction site, which it has occupied for the past 26 years, necessitating the development of a new site.

Designed and constructed by Drayton Construction, the HVTC Skills Centre will also house HVTC Head Office and HVTC Hunter’s Group Training Organisation (GTO).

Apprentices, parents, staff and guests are invited to visit the Skills Centre for its inaugural Apprentice Welcome Day with HVTC CEO Sharon Smith saying that Friday’s unofficial opening gives this year’s intake of apprentices the opportunity to meet staff, attend Host Employer presentations and tour the training facility.

“Our new state-of-the-art Skills Centre will be the training ground for more than 50 apprentices in 2014, who will gain skills in a range of traditional trades highly sought after in mining and manufacturing,” Sharon said.

“With custom-built facilities, we’ll be better able to meet the changing nature of training and provide an even higher quality service to our apprentices and employers. We’ll also be broadening our range of training to include specifically designed induction courses, safety training and additional short courses for Australian industries.”

“This is an incredibly exciting time for HVTC and the local Hunter community which has been very supportive of the new Skills Centre and the ongoing benefits it will bring to the region.”
