Hunter Young Professionals learn survival of the fittest

Young Hunter businesspeople have the opportunity to learn about adapting in their careers from a well known ex footballer turned businessman, thanks to the Greater Building Society.

Dr Mark “Sarge” Sargent will be the keynote speaker at the next Hunter Young Professionals (HYP) meeting on Thursday, 23 April 2015, sponsored by The Greater.

Emily Bowen, HYP vice president and Forsythes Recruitment organisational development specialist, said in today’s business world, regardless of age, people need to be able to adapt to a changing environment, evolving industry or a change in career path.

“If you can’t adapt, you face being left behind; it is survival of the fittest,” Emily said.

” Mark Sargent has successfully adapted to change throughout his diverse career, making him an ideal person to speak on the topic.”

Since retiring from football in 1995, the 50-year-old has gone on to work for himself and in corporate roles as well as complete an MBA, Masters in Marketing, and most recently a PhD in Public Policy. He is a director of the Business Growth Centre and principal at Aigis Group Business Research Consultancy.

Mark Sargent played rugby league for Australia, NSW and for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs (19 games) and Newcastle Knights (126 games). He captained the Knights and won the Rothmans Medal for Best and Fairest in 1989 whilst playing for them.

The Greater is a Silver Sponsor of HYP. The Greater’s manager of networking development Lynn Mangovski said as a leading Hunter-based business it supported the development of local professionals to lead the continued successful growth of the region’s businesses and organisations.

“The Greater is always adapting to meet the needs of its customers, most recently in it introducing leading mobile and digital banking services,” Lynn said.
