Hunter to showcase future business minds

Hunter to showcase future business minds

Our youngest innovators and entrepreneurs will have their ideas for a business, product, service or solution brought to life as part of the Young Business Mind Awards program.

The Hunter Young Business Mind Awards is an initiative of the Hunter Region Local Chambers of Commerce and creates a leadership environment for young people to be visionary and cultivate business ideas.

Hunter Business Chamber CEO, Bob Hawes, said that the Hunter’s business community understood that the region’s capacity to lead and grow hinged upon its ability to be entrepreneurial and innovate.

“Our young people are our future. They will dream of new industries, create the new jobs and become our civic leaders,” Bob said.

“The Hunter Young Business Mind Awards aims to support young people by letting them know that the business community is here to support them as they find new ways to contribute and lead important change for our region and country.”

Entries are now open for the Hunter Young Business Mind Awards in the categories of:

  • Best creative thinking for a business idea or an existing business run by a student (Year 5 –12). Prizes are cash and business development packages.
  • Best creative idea for a business or social enterprise developed by a class or school. In store vouchers proudly sponsored by Harvey Norman.

The Hunter Young Business Mind Awards Program Ambassador is Founder and CEO of Throatscope, Jennifer Holland. Jennifer won the 2017 Edison Award in New York and successfully landed investment from Steve Baxter on Shark Tank Australia.

Jennifer believes this program is an important way to uncover the region’s next generation of entrepreneurs.

“We are really looking forward to getting the program out there and seeing what great ideas our young people come back with and bringing them to life,” Jennifer said.

“It has also been great to see some of our region’s business leaders such as PKF, Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors, Harvey Norman, and home-grown businesses like Design Change, Purser Corporate Communication and Agent of Obelisk, help us pull the program together without any hesitation.”

Business Hunter

Business Hunter is the new name for the organisation formerly known as the Hunter Business Chamber. We are the largest regional peak business group in Australia, representing members across all business and industry sectors. Business Hunter is a not-for-profit member organisation dedicated to connecting people in business with what they need to succeed.

We have been the voice of business in the Hunter since 1886. Our members are part of a network of more than 2,500 businesses across the region. That network includes members of 20 aligned local chambers across 10 local government areas, stretching from the Mid North Coast to Lake Macquarie and inland to Scone. From main-street retailers to ASX 100 corporates, our member businesses power Australia's strongest regional economy.

The name Business Hunter was adopted in February 2020 to better reflect the vibrant and diverse businesses the organisation represents. The new name also aligns with our affiliates Business NSW and Business Australia.

Business Hunter has been through a number of name changes; what has never changed is our commitment to helping our members do business better, to drive growth and prosperity in the Hunter region.
