Home-grown law firm hosts home ground conference

Dispersed law firm, Nexus Law Group, recently hosted their first national group conference in Newcastle, making the most of their home ground advantage.

Launched in 2013, Nexus is at the forefront of a new approach to law, whereby senior specialist lawyers are provided with a more flexible work platform and better remuneration, and clients have access to a wide range of experienced lawyers, at a lower price point.

With Consulting Principal lawyers working from their own offices across Australia, Nexus Founder, Marcus McCarthy, said it was important to ensure collaboration and connection between the national team.

“We have a new model for the practice of modern law but it means we need to bring our dispersed legal team together regularly and add value to their business. We need to be constantly looking for new ways to ensure our people get the best results,” Marcus said.

“One of the ways we will foster relationship-building and continuous education is to host an annual group conference.

“During the planning, a number of locations throughout Australia were considered, but in the end we thought Newcastle had so many advantages as a conference location. Our decision was rewarded, with the service offered by providers second to none and every attendee absolutely loving the experience.”

The educational elements of the conference were held at Crowne Plaza Newcastle, with a range of internal and external guest speakers, and entertainment features held at venues around town.

The Nexus team enjoyed a conference dinner at Merewether Surfhouse and, in the final session, had the afternoon at the newly launched VRXP, a virtual reality studio in Watt St.

“The feedback we have received from the conference and location was excellent and it is great to profile our great city with our interstate members. Everyone who attended Nexus wants to come back to the Hunter next year and we expect more than 50 delegates the next time around,” Jacqueline Keddie, Nexus Business Manager, said.
