Change in leadership for Hunter Young Professionals

The Hunter Young Professionals (hyp) has announced a change in leadership and eight new non-executive Directors for 2018. The new Board will bring a reinvigorated and refreshed approach to the organisation’s operations and mindset.

Newly elected President, Lauren Armstrong said that the organisation has been passed on with great foundations, including a successful internal subcommittee structure and an annual event concept, which offers a journey experience for members to explore at events throughout the year.

Lauren previously held the position of Secretary for the organisation and is the Marketing Manager of Belmont 16s.

Immediate Past President, James Callender said that he is proud of what hyp has achieved and is extremely impressed by the calibre of leaders who have taken stewardship this year.

“I am very much looking forward to continuing my hyp journey and experiencing the change that Lauren and the board will effect this year,” James said.

Joining Lauren as Executive Directors of the organisation are Vice President Madeleine Tiedeman, Secretary Chanel Egan and Treasurer Alex Hardy. Non-executive Directors who round out the organisation are Ben Slack, Iskander Azizuddin, Jimmy Fay, Jorja Cowan, Karen Hearnden, Ryan Houston, Sam Slack-Smith and Tamara Tancred.

The annual journey for hyp events in 2018 is set to explore the concept of contribution. Lauren said that it is in their unique and selfless contribution that leaders and leading organisations are truly remembered and that their messages are followed, shared and replicated beyond themselves.

“It’s about leaving a legacy. This year our events will explore how we can have a meaningful contribution as individuals, as leaders and as a community,” Lauren said.

“Ultimately, we endeavour to discover how we can leave the things we encounter – organisations, people, the world – in a better way than when we found them.”

Lauren said that hyp will continue to promote its purpose this year, which is to develop and retain young leaders of the Hunter so that they can contribute significantly to the local business community. Also on the agenda for hyp is further promoting brand awareness and strengthening community relations.

hyp is a supportive community of like minded young professionals who value opportunities to learn and develop themselves beyond their tertiary education.

Membership is free and provides young professionals with access to the unique community, networking opportunities, potential for member of the month profiling, professional development and learning opportunities as well as the ability to vote in the Annual General Meeting and nominate to become a board member.

hyp has over 1,200 registered voting members from all over the Hunter Region and sponsors include University of Newcastle, Sparke Helmore and PKF Newcastle.
