AGL Liddell and Bayswater encourage employees to shop local this Christmas

With Christmas and the holiday season just around the corner, AGL’s Liddell and Bayswater power stations are helping employees spend big with local businesses, providing $30,000 worth of gift cards to spend in the Hunter and Singleton.

We Live Here gift cards have been purchased from Why Leave Town, an organisation encouraging Australians to shop in their local areas.

AGL Chief Operating Officer, Markus Brokhof said AGL’s participation in the Why Leave Town program is a way of showing AGL’s support for its employees and the community this Christmas.

“We know businesses right across our region have had a challenging 18 months with the impacts of the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns,” Markus said.

“We are proud to live and work in the communities of the Hunter and Singleton and are committed to supporting business recovery into the new year.

“The ‘Why Leave Town’ initiative is a great way to support businesses to get back up and running while also providing some Christmas cheer to our people.

“As restrictions ease and we return to a level of normality, we want to ensure that our community benefits and that spending stays local.

“As a member of this community, I have been so proud to see how everyone has worked together to keep people safe and I am looking forward to seeing our employees enjoying a safe and happy holiday season ahead.”

Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Member Services Manager, Wayne Toms said the Chamber is pleased to recognise the contribution by AGL and its employees through its Making Muswellbrook program.

“The last two years have been very tough on many local businesses and the injection into the local economy through the gift cards will provide a much-needed boost to those trying to rebuild from the recent lockdowns and restrictions,” Wayne said.

The Making Muswellbrook program is an initiative of the MCCI that recognises individuals, businesses, groups, and organisations for playing their part in making Muswellbrook a great place to call home.
