The Newcastle Institue will tonight host a ‘pitch’ night to brainstorm how to spend $1 Billion in the Hunter.
Based on the position that the NSW Government says it will spend hundreds of millions on urban renewal in Newcastle the New Institute wants to check if they’re spending the funds on the right projects.
With by-elections coming up soon and a state election seven months away the event is sure to give politicians food for thought.
The Newcastle Institute, in conjunction with the Newcastle Herald, invited community members to write a 200 word ‘pitch’ describing their vision for spending a billion dollars to make the Hunter a better place to live, work and play.
Tonight from 7pm at Souths Leagues Club, the top five submissions will present their pitch at the Newcastle Institute monthly forum to an expert panel including University of Newcastle Futurist Gary Ellem, ABC Newcastle Radio Host Paul Bevan and Newcastle Herald Senior Feature Writer Rosemarie Milsom.
The winning pitch will take home $500.
Entry to the event is via a $5 donation.
