During the global COVID-19 pandemic, a local profit for purpose organisation is prepared for continued future success.
At thirty years young, TROG Cancer Research is braving the uncertainty of the current environment and shoring up their governance structure with the appointment of a new Company Secretary.
CPA-qualified finance professional and philanthropist, Bernadette Smyth, has joined the TROG Cancer Research team in the role of Company Secretary and Business Planning & Advisory Services Manager.
Bernadette’s career spans seventeen years across public practice, commercial and profit for purpose organisations, the latter being where her heart lies.
“I’m a philanthropist first and foremost. I bonded with TROG Cancer Research quickly because they are doing ground-breaking work in improving the outcomes of cancer patients, and the team are so passionate about what they do” Bernadette said.
“I feel blessed to work with an organisation that is making a real difference in our community and beyond, and I look forward to assisting TROG Cancer Research on their continued path to success.”
Bernadette’s appointment is just one of many significant milestones for the Waratah-based organisation. In late 2019, they celebrated thirty years of global progress against cancer.
For over three decades, TROG Cancer Research has facilitated hundreds of clinical trials that have involved more than 14,7500 cancer patients and helped improve the outcome and quality of life for thousands more cancer patients globally.
In March 2020, TROG Cancer Research made headlines when they pivoted their Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) from a face to face event to a virtual meeting within a matter of weeks.
It is this determination and strategic mindset that has made TROG Cancer Research one of the largest clinical trial groups in Australia and New Zealand.
There is a compelling momentum around TROG’s successes, driven by a strong management team and sound governance structure.
TROG Cancer Research CEO, Susan Goode said that it is their talented team that help them drive innovative cancer research results in Australia and around the world.
She says that Bernadette is a welcomed addition to this team.
