The Kent Hotel introduces new event space at 99th birthday celebration

Recently, The Kent Hotel sold out its 99th Birthday Celebration, paying tribute to the venue’s long history.

The Kent Hotel unveiled its highly anticipated event space: The Deco Lounge with over 150 attendees.

Guests included local businesses, sponsorship beneficiaries, investors, stakeholders, the venue’s construction team, fans of the venue and previous employees of The Kent.

The attendees were the first to experience the event space in action while they enjoyed complimentary cocktails and delicious canapes.

To commemorate the brand inspiration, guests were served by local performance artists dressed head to toe in 1920s-themed flapper costumes.

In addition, guests enjoyed a collection of acoustic live entertainment from local musician, Sam Russell.

The Managing Director of Hunt Hospitality, Stephen Hunt raised a toast to the building’s heritage during the evening.

“The new space renders a tribute to the iconic pub’s roots,” Stephen said.

“You can see the slashes on the exposed brick from the 1989 Newcastle earthquake in which Hamilton was the epicentre.

“After the earthquake in 1989, the previous owners were threatened by authorities that the pub would need to be demolished.

“It was only through determination, community, and hard work that the pair saved this pillar of the community.”

The Hotel’s namesake, The Kent in England stems from the Latin motto of ‘Invictus’ which translates to ‘unconquered’ or ‘undefeated’.

Calling upon the history of the venue’s namesake, Stephen shared that he believes The Kent Hotel has withstood the test of time and embodies its name’s motto.

With its exposed brickwork, 1920s references and printed steel ceiling details, The Deco Lounge integrates Australian Art Deco architecture from the original period the building was constructed.

Hunt Hospitality’s Chief Operation Officer and driving force behind the renovation, Ricci-Lee Wheeler said it was fantastic to see The Deco Lounge in use after the 6-month period of its creation.

“After the success of the Kent’s 99th Birthday Celebration patrons can expect more festivities to take place in The Deco Lounge,” Riccie-Lee said.

The Kent Hotel’s event visionaries Alex Crelley (Licensee, The Kent Hotel), Luisa Amosa (Director of Marketing, Hunt Hospitality) and Shirley Shannon (Marketing and Communication Assistant, Hunt Hospitality) encourage locals to keep their eyes glued to The Kent’s socials media accounts for more information about upcoming events such as Melbourne Cup.
