Singleton’s 10-year vision puts youth in focus

Singleton Council is calling on the community to have its say on the draft Create Singleton 2035 Community Strategic Plan, now on public exhibition until Wednesday 16 April 2025.

Based on feedback from more than 3,500 community interactions, the draft plan identifies youth support, entertainment and activities, retail, hospitality, and shared pathways as key priorities for the next decade.

Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore, said the community made it clear they want more options and opportunities for young people, who represent 19 per cent of the local population.

“There was a particular emphasis on supporting young people to continue to live and work in Singleton, with a focus on building a vibrant, inclusive community that offers equal access to work, education, and leisure,” Cr Moore said.

“The draft plan includes specific actions aimed at empowering youth, helping them build confidence and access opportunities in social, recreational, and employment activities, while preparing for the jobs of the future.”

The draft plan was developed following extensive engagement, including 725 surveys, 1,065 dotmocracy responses, and 525 social media interactions across events held throughout 2023.

Singleton Council General Manager, Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr, said the draft sets the groundwork for the Council’s Delivery and Operational Plans over the next four years.

“It captures the aspirations and needs of people across our LGA and outlines practical actions – from water and sewer services to transport connectivity and disaster preparedness,” Justin said.

“This is the best opportunity for everyone in our community to review and help shape Singleton’s direction for the next 10 years.”

Community members are encouraged to view the draft plan and submit feedback before Wednesday 16 April.
